Brisbane’s Top 10 Foodies

Since arriving in Brisbane, I feel like all I have done is EAT FOOD. All the food… I’ve not tried it all, but I’ve tried a lot. So, I’m going to give you my current Top 10 Foodie Feats on Brisbane’s Streets…

  1. Ze Pickle
  2. Mister Fitz
  3. Sushi Edo
  4. Doughnut Time
  5. Max Brenner Chocolate Dessert Bar (OMG…)
  6. Ric’s Bar – Fatboys Cafe
  7. Brewski
  8. In a Pickle (Coorparoo)
  9. Bakery Lane
  10. Alfredos

Here is a run down with great food recommendations. Like this post? Share, share, share! 🙂

1. Ze Pickle

Ze Pickle has WEIRD ASS FOOD and I love it. I ordered the Donut Burger ‘donutfukwitdis’ …literally a beef patty inside a Dount thats been iced, fried and sliced in half. And it was delicious! Not one I’d eat all the time but every blue moon or after a drunken night out this burger would be awesome! Definitely one to try.

2. Mister Fitz

Mister Fitz is famous for their ice cream sandwiches and boy they do not disappoint! I’ve been there 2-3 times now in the 5 months I’ve been here and it ticks the boxes for the massive sweet tooth I have (to match the massive arse….too many foodies!). They bake their own cookies, make their own incredible ice cream and even do mashups with another business Doughnut Time (see Number 4!) to bring the two together. Yum! I highly recommend the rainbow cookies, Nutella ice cream and salted pretzel combo, or the pink sea salt caramel ice cream. Amazing!!

3. Sushi Edo (The Barracks)

Chicken Avocado Beetroot (Purple) Sushi is incredible. The UK has a few Sushi places, but they never feel as fresh or as good as the ones over here. The Sushi is awesome, and we keep coming back to Sushi Edo on the barracks over and over again. I’ve not had a bad one yet. I have lots of faves here…I’m not a huge fish fan, so I tend to go for the meat or veggie options but my faves are obviously the beetroot chicken sushi, Cheeto’s sushi and the Gyoza and rice paper rolls!

4. Doughnut Time

These are hands down my favourite doughnuts of all time, I don’t even need to say anything about them because they are just delicious. So I’ll list my favourites instead:

  • Love at First Bite – The Nutella Doughnut
  • How Deep is Your Love – Strawberry Filled & Frosted
  • Pump Up the Jam – You can see a theme…
  • It’d be Rudolph Not to
  • Cornelius Fudge
  • Life on Mars
  • The Australia Day Special ‘The Straya’

Obviously I’ve been here and UberEat’s delivered far more of these than I’d care to admit, but the list shows enough.

5. Max Brenner Chocolate Dessert Bar

We went here on our first trip to the Gold Coast when we were thinking of moving and we made the mistake of going for lunch first. I ordered the peanut butter shake (amazing! Bit chunky and I loved it) and the brownie sundae with chocolate pot n chocolate balls on the side…while Rachael (OH) also ordered and got the banana and Nutella pancakes so we could share. We needed to share one. There was so much food and it was all very good, definitely an indulgent naughty choice! But I can not fault the service or food. High quality, one for birthdays and special occasions! Just look at it…Yum!

6. Ric’s Bar – Fatboys Cafe

When we first moved to the valley we had no transport and had no idea where the local woolies or Coles was, so the morning after the move when there was nothing in the fridge we went for a walk into the centre of the valley for breakfast. We came across Ric’s and ordered the Haloumi Stack for Breakfast – Grilled Haloumi, Turkish Bread, Poached Egg, Rocket and Bernaise Sauce and I was obsessed! We keep going back for weeks for breakfast and everything was good! Service is good, juice is good…its ace. I’d highly recommend Ric’s to anyone waking up in Fortitude Valley. (Menu on the link!)

7. Brewski (The Barracks)

Craft beer lovers delight this bar. Not my thing usually but I still gave a few a go and they were good! We were living in the backpackers on Upper Roma Street when we found that the barracks over the road has a lot to offer food wise. We headed down Caxton St and came across this place. Its got a cool rock music vibe, relaxed atmosphere, great drinks and reaaallllyyy good pizza. I dont think this place gets the traffic it deserves! We always head here if we’re after pizza and drinks away from home. If your on caxton, give this place a go. You’ll not be sorry!!

8. In a Pickle (Coorparoo)

I came across In a Pickle as it’s the closest place to my work and I have been back SO many times because these guys do GOOD food. It’s not cheap, at all. But it’s good! So far I’ve eaten and would recommend:

  1. Potato & Haloumi Salad (this is the BEST potato salad I’ve ever had!)
  2. Arancini Ball – Crispy fried Risotto balls of YUM! Served with the most delicious Bernaise sauce I’ve ever tasted.
  3. Chicken Stack – stacked with Egg Plant (Aubergine), Potato, veggies. Awesome!
  4. Polenta slab of something….not even sure whats in this thing, but its GOOD!
  5. Lasagne – because who doesn’t love home cooked style lasagne?
  6. The muffins – HUGE, flowed over the edge of the tray style muffins, my fave is the blueberry!

This place does takeaway and its just the best. One of my fave lunch places outside of the city. They even do cooking classes and sell stuff for you to cook from home.

9. Bakery Lane – The Lost Boys Cafe & I Heart Brownies

A friend recommended ‘Lost Boys Cafe’ on bakery lane and although its a vegan cafe which isn’t usually our thing…. we were not disappointed. We ordered Nachos and Iced Tea and it was awesome! This place is super quirky, wooden tree trunks for stools, wooden walls and it looks like the lost boys garden, its super cool. Then we headed out, had a look around the quirky little shops (its really cool) and found I Heart Brownies. We ordered the peanut butter and the standard brownie and OH my god they are SO good! I am a big brownie fan, always have been. But these are up there in my all time faves! So moist and doughy and the flavours are awesome. It’s a great little morning out down Bakery Lane, you should go check it out.

10. Alfredos & Alfred and Constance

For my birthday we went down to Alfred’s Pizza after a gig to eat their Sexy Pizza & Cocktails…we then went to Alfred and Constance for a good few cocktails! The cocktails are great, I had the Mango Cooler and Paloma cocktails, which I definitely recommend! The 2 places are connected, along with Doughnut Time. Perfect! A great place for a few drinks with friends, casual dining and a good vibe.

Lost Boys is the best! The vegan waffles are by far one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Brissy! Love Sushi Edo as well. We have some amazing food options around!
