Road Trip Planning – Sydney to Brisbane
6th September we land in Sydney at 10.30pm (AEST) so rather than traipsing into the city after a 24hour flight, we have decided to book ourselves into the Ibis Budget Hotel at Sydney Airport for the night to rest up before we go and explore on our road trip!
I have been looking for somewhere nice to stay in Sydney for what feels like forever… last time we stayed in an apartment close to Bondi beach and it was nice, but personally I wasn’t that impressed with Bondi so I decided to look elsewhere this time around. After searching around on various Hostel / Hotel booking sites I thought I’d give AirBNB a try, and I’ve got to say – I love it!
We found an apartment in Potts Point that has everything we need it to have, its self catered, not up too many flights of stairs so we don’t struggle with our bags, its a 25 minute trip to Darling Harbour and its close to public transport. It looks lovely! I’ll post about our stay there in September. We are there for a few nights, leaving to head North to Brisbane.
Looking at a few places we’ve never been and would like to visit, we decided to stop at:
- Newcastle
- Port Macquarie
- Coffs Harbour
- Byron Bay
We eventually want to end up in either the Sunshine Coast (around Mooloolaba) or in the Gold Coast to live and work, so we are going to set up camp in Brisbane for a few weeks until we find work and go from there. But more on that later, back to the trip…
I trawled the internet for good deals, but found that Booking.com actually had some of the best deals for what we are after! We’re doing things a little different this time around, instead of staying in 17 bed dorms (Noosa Nomads!) we are staying in private rooms, not because we’re above it – we both love hostel stays, but we are going to have lots of stuff with us seeing as we’ve booked double baggage so were best to have a little extra space. Plus, the rates are super reasonable! We’ve paid between £30-50 ($60-100) per room for either a Double or Twin Room with Aircon of course…
Check out some of the places we are staying at along our road trip:
Sunnyside Tavern, Newcastle
Ozzie Pozzie Backpackers, Port Macquarie
YHA Backpackers Resort, Coffs Harbour
Byron Beach Resort, Byron Bay
City Backpackers, Brisbane
So, we need to look for things to do along the way! Have you stayed at any of these places? Anything you’d recommend near by? Do you run a fun activity and want a review? Get in touch! I’d love to hear all your thoughts!!
I’m not sporty but love the water so I want to go kayaking somewhere and visit a few nice places, nothing too expensive seeing as we’re on a budget! Plus we really want to go whale watching it snorkelling. Get in touch with recommendations!
Until next time…
